company overview

Stuffonastick  is a developer of a toolkit of flash memory centric DRM technologies offering IP protection for content distribution on flash memory cards and USB flash drives for use on computers, handhelds and mobile phones.

In summer 1995 John Thwaites met with a colleague Peter Cykowski , now technical director, to find a way of  being able to lock content on to flash memory in a way that did not need specially configured hardware.

John had been asked by music producers if flash memory was a safe way of distributing music content. Currently, digital content on flash memory can be copied and re-distributed making it one of the least secure mediums on which to store content.  Great for managing and sharing files, but also great for the unauthorised copy and distribution of film, audio, software and data.

So the challenge was taken to design and build a simple solution to make data secure on portable flash memory.

The result is , the first in a range of software that requires no expensive proprietary hardware, works on any flash memory, is cross platform, remains cost effective and is available for any number of units. is a copy protection solution for data and software distributed on flash memory with a single instance single user license model.

To this has been added a personal secure identifier for controlled access to specific online content and the ability to download content from the web site to a flash memory and to copy protect that downloaded content.
The DRM solution works then for both pre-loaded and downloaded content to flash memory.

The software interfaces with various operating systems. In version 1 both PC and Mac operating systems are supported. Version 2, to be released in October 2006 supports Windows Mobile 5 Operating system.

We have been working with Palgrave Macmillan, an innovative publisher, and are launching USB StudyStick for new University students the world over on 1st of September 2006. The  software copy protects a study skills e-book and controls access to a study skills web site. This product forms the first stage in a Macmillan strategy to take customers from brick and mortar bookstores into their online stores and to deliver their content securely to all types of connected devices with flash memory.
