How do I get my wolflockdrm™ sample?
Manager’s Instructions
There are two ways we can get you a sample of your content protected by
on a USB stick. Each process depends on the type of content you wish to protect.
- For media files and data such as PDF's we provide a service to incorporate such files in our reader. A single file, film, audio, album or data set can be sent to us by FTP, a CD in the post or even email in some cases. We can then send you back a copy protected sample on a USB. You don’t have to do anything.
- If however, you have an application, such as an interactive training programme currently distributed on CD or an accounts package or some other software, then we require some work to be done by you or your software developer prior to the copy protection process. The changes are two fold; first is to change the install process to run the application from a single location and not the usual install procedure for a PC and second is to prepare the application to expect a parameter (a series of numbers or digits) on start up. This necessary in order to avoid passing the copy control when stating he application.
The reason we ask you to do this, rather than us, is simply that you and your developers know the workings of your software better than we do and, probably more importantly, it would not be in our remit to alter a client’s code at the programme level.
Developer Instructions
Installing your application on a Stuffonastick USB memory stick.
, the access control software on the USB memory stick, validates the unique ID of the stick and passes a parameter to your application, allowing it to launch. Additional control checksums are also used to strengthen security.
Your application can only be used on the stick, and the user is free to use your application on any computer without having to install it first.
Application setup requirements:
- Your application is installed into a folder on the USB memory stick. All files required by the application must be installed in this folder. No files should be installed on computer hard disks.
- Information can be written to the computer registry (window size, position etc.) but the application should not depend on registry information in order for it to run.
- The user starts your application by running our start-up (
) executable file that will validate the USB memory stick. If the stick is invalid, a popup window displays a warning message. If the stick is valid, your application executable file is called with an encoded parameter. You application should expect this parameter so that it will not run if the parameter is missing or its value incorrect. Your application developers will receive specific information about this process.
